Abstract

Denture related stomatitis is an inflammatory process that mainly involves thepalatal mucosa when it is covered by complete or partial dentures; it appears frequentamong denture wearer and varies widely. Fifty patients were examined in this study,66% of them had denture stomatitis. This study aimed to evaluate the presence ofdenture stomatitis in denture wearers' patients, and to know the relation betweendenture age, denture hygiene, and denture cleansing with denture stomatitis.Results of the present study showed that poor denture hygiene was associated withhigh percentage of denture stomatitis.Also low percent of denture stomatitis appeared in the denture wearers of 3-4times/ day denture cleansing.The percentage of reduction in the prevalence of denture stomatitis was clear innewly or less years wearing dentures.

Abstract

Background: Poly (methylmethacrylate) is the most widely used material in denture fabrication. The characteristics ofacrylic resin which support microorganism development can threaten the oral health of denture users. This study wasassigned to prepareand incorporate Ag-Zn zeolite powder into heat cured denture base material as antimicrobialmaterial and to investigate its effect on some properties of heat cured acrylic denture base materials.Materials and methods: Sliver –zinc zeolite was prepared by ion exchange method and characterized thenincorporated into poly (methylmethacrylate) powder in0.5% by weight. Specimens were constructed and dividedinto 6 groups according to the using tests; each group was subdivided into 2 groups. The tests conducted in this studywere: impact strength test, transverse strength test, surface hardness test, surface roughness test, water sorption test,water solubility test and color change measurement after addition. The results were statistically analyzed by t-test atp value≤ 0.05.Results: Characterization methods results showed the incorporation of sliver and zinc ion without change of zeolitestructure framework. A non-significant effect resulted from the addition of 0.5% sliver –zinc zeolite on the impactstrength, transverse strength, surface hardness, surface roughness and cause no change in color of heat curedenture base. Also a highly significant decrease in water sorption and a significant increase of water solubility wereobserved.Conclusion: Preparation of sliver-zinc zeolite could be performed successfully and the addition of 0.5% ofantimicrobial sliver-zinc zeolite into heat cure acrylic had a non significant effect on the impact strength, transversestrength, surface hardness, surface roughness and did not change the color, also there was a significant decrease inwater sorption and increase in water solubility of acrylic resin

Abstract

Degradation of oral health is often assumed to progress with aging. However, significantly higher total counts and greater varieties of Candida species can be detected in wearers of removable dentures compared with nondenture wearers.Poorly fitting or unhygienic dentures leads to the presence of yeast like fungi (Candidaalbicans ) attached to it, and cause inflammation. Although candidiasis is highly resistant to antifungal agents, systemic drugs usage are necessary. But the systemic use of these drugs can cause side effects like liver toxicity, drug interactions etc.Usingpropolseasantifungal by localapplication, found that it suppresses the Candida associated dry socket and denture stomatitis. The Propolispast was used in the following manner. It was applied to the fitting surface of denture, twice a day for 2 weeks. The Propolisputty was putted in dry socket after complete removal of inflammatory tissuesfrom it.The results showed pain, redness area and inflammation related stomatitis were disappear gradually after 48 hours until 2 weeks that the denture stomatitis is healing by using a Propolispast.Propolisputty treat the fungal inflammation of dry socket that gradual decreases of the pain and inflammation.After the treatment, all patientswith denture stomatitis were subjected to examination of the palatal mucosa and socket and quantitative culture of Candida from the palatal mucosa and denture fitting surface and diagnosed by three method :Germ tube.GramStain.andChromAgar media

تشهد صحة الفم غالبا تدهورا مع تقدم العمر علاوة على ذلك زيادة اعداد من انواع كثيرة مختلفة من مستعمرات المبيضات البيضاء مع الاشخاص الذين يستخدمون طقوم الاسنان المتحركة مقارنة مع الذين لايستخدمونها. و المبيضات البيضاء (G+) قادرة على العيش كأحياء طبيعية في فم الاشخاص الاصحاء. عدم ثباتية الطقم او عدم نظافة الطقوم يؤدي الى وجود الفطريات Candida albicans والالتصاق بها وتؤدي الى الالتهابات الفموية. بالرغم من ان الميضات البيضاء عالية المقاومة لمضادات الفطريات السطحية فان النظام الدوائي يكون ضروريا ولكنه يؤدي الى مضاعفات جانبيه مثل تسمم الكبد والتداخل الدوائي والخ واستخدم البروبولس موضعيا كمضاد للفطريات لقمع المبيضات البيضاء المصاحبه (dry socket and stomatitis) . كما يلي : يوضع معجون البروبولس على السطح النسيجي للطقم مرتين في اليوم لمدة اسبوعين اما عجينة البروبولس فانها تستخدم في مكان قلع السن الملتهب بعد تنظيفه من الأنسجة الملتهبة. اظهرت النتائج اختفاء تدريجي للألم واحمرار المنطقة الملتهبة من سقف الفم ومكان قلع السن بعد يومين واختفائها نهائيا بعد اسبوعين من استخدام البروبولس. بعد العلاج تم فحص سقف الفم ومكان قلع السن واخذت عينات منها لفحصها مختبريا بثلاثة طرق وهي: Germ Germ tube . Effect of Propolis on Fungal Infection for Denture Wearers and Dry Socket

Abstract

Propolis is consist of various amounts of resins and beeswaxes thatproduced by the honeybees from different natural plants, as leafbuds and flowers. It is a sticky and dark-brown color material thatproduced by honeybees from natural plants that the bees mixed itwith wax and applied it in building, construction and adaptation ofthe nests specially in repair cracks and defects in the bees hive.They have been used in medical folk or medical traditional sincetimes of ancient. It is now known to be natural medical treatmentwith, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxiditive, antitumor andmmunomodulatory properties. These medical properties ofpropolis are motivating isolation researches, identification of thepossible relationship of these with its biological activity, andchemical compounds. It was used in dentistry for healing ofsurgical wound (or post-surgical mouth pain), toothhypersensitivity, pulp capping and root canal treatment. Propolishas a promising goal in future medically. This research shows theapplication of propolis, clinically, as a natural dental medicine.Furthermore; systemic and clinical applications of these drugs mayhave some adverse effects like liver toxicity, drug interactions etc.Using propolis as antifungal by local application shown that itreduces the incidence of dry socket and denture stomatitis thatassociated with the Candida. In present study, the propolis hasbeen used in the following manner. It is applied to the tissuesurfaces of dentures, two times daily for two weeks. Propolis puttycan also applied to dry socket cases after complete debridementand irrigation of it. The results showed after use propolis that thesigns and symptoms including pain, redness and inflammationareas related stomatitis were gradually disappear, after 2 to 14days the denture stomatitis is healing by using a propolis paste.Propolis putty has an effect on the fungal infection of dry socketthat gradually reduced pain and inflammation until completehealing. Aim of the study, after the treatment of patients withdenture stomatitis, they were subjected to examination andevaluation of the mucosa and socket, Candidal quantitativecultures and confirmation the diagnosis by three methods: Germtube, Gram Stain, and ChromAgar media.
