The incidence of Entamoeba histolytica & Giardia Lamblia associated with diarrhea among children in lbn Al-Balady Hospital in Baghdad

Abstract

Background: The high incidence contradicts convention and wisdom that amebiasis is a very frequent cause of childhood diarrhea or dysentry in developing countries. Giardisis occur worldwide but is more prevalent in area within adequate sanitary conditions and where water treatment facilities and procedure are subber. It is conceder to be a major cause of diarrheal out breaks from contaminated water supply, it’s affected by much the same socioeconomic factors that influence the distribution of E. histolytica.Materials and Methods: A total of 2177 stools specimens were collected from children attending the outpatient clinic of lbn Al-Balady Hospital in Baghdad suffering from diarrhea, This study carried out during the period from January to June 2009. Samples were collected and examined by the direct wet amount method.Results: Three hundred and seventy seven (17.3%) cases were positive to Entamoeba histolytica, the highest rate of infection was in June (21.9%) followed by May (21.4%). The incidence of the female (45.4%) is lower than male (54.6%) while the infection with Giardia lamblia was very low (1.1%) and the incidence is higher in March (3.3%) , the female show that high infection rate (52%) more than male (48%).Conclusions: Entamoeba histolytica is prominent etiology of childhood dysentery in lbn Al-Balady hospital in Baghdad.Key Words:- Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, enteritis, children.

الخلفية: النسب العالية لحدوث الاسهال بسب Entamoeba histolytica تتناقض مع نقل المعرفة ان المسبب الاساسي للاسهال غالبا ما يكون بسب اميبا الزحاء في الاطفال في الدول المتقدمة.Giardia lamblia عالمية الانتشار لكنها تنتشر اكثر في المناطق الغير ملائمة صحيا وسهولة اجراءات معالجة المياه الصحية معدومة .الاسباب الرئيسة لحدوث حالات اصاباتالاسهال هي نتيجة تلوث المياه والعوامل الاجتماعية والاقتصادية المؤثرة على توزيع Entamoeba histolytica . المواد وطرق العمل: المجموع الكلي لـ 2177 نموذج خروج جمعت من الأطفال المراجعين إلى مستشفى ابن البلدي في بغداد والمصابين بالتهاب الأمعاء. هذه الدراسات تمت من شهر كانون الثاني ولغاية حزيران (2009). النماذج جمعت وفحصت من خلال الفحص المباشر الرطب.النتائج : ثلاثمائة وسبعة وسبعين (3,17%) نموذج موجب لاميبيا الزحار .اعلى نسبة كانت في شهر حزيران (9,21 %) ويتبعها شهر ايار بنسبة 4,45% وكانت نسبة حدوث الاصابة في الاناث (45.4%) اقل من نسبة الاصابة في الذكور (6,54%) بينما نسبة الإصابة بالجيارديا لامبليا قليلة جدا (1,1%) و اعلى نسبة اصابة كانت بشهر اذار (3,3%). الاناث اعلى نسبة اصابة (52%) من الذكور (48%).الخاتمة: ان طفيلي اميبيا الزحار هو الطفيلي الاساسي المصاحب للاسهال لمراجعي مستشفى ابن البلدي في بغداد.

Abstract

Feline Parvovirus (FPV) had a substantial outcome on cats at various ages. This study considered being the first in Iraq focused on detection of the virus in cats with diarrhea at different age groups in some Iraqi provinces. The present study, involved a collectin of 84 fecal samples or intestinal fecal samples from an infected cats (stray and pet). These specimens were checked for detection of presence or absence the viral antigen. The checking procedure was included using the rapid antigen test kit (Anigen, Korea) and ready Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) kit (Santiago, Chile) to detect the virus antigen and specific genes. In addition to that, the hematological parameters had been realized. The current results show the 32 (38%) and 43 (51. 1%) were positive in rapid test and PCR, respectively. The hematological results showed 75 (89. 2%) have leukopenia. It was concluded from current study that the FPV was detected and distributed between cats of Iraq. Also, its showed that the stray cats play an important role in distribution of disease in fields.
