Abstract

: Environmental problems have been taking into consideration as serious situation in the modern construction. Reusing and recycling the wastes consider as the only methods to reduce waste generated. However, the applications still have much opportunity for enhancement. This scientific paper review the researches in field of glass waste material reusing in construction application. The influence of the size and content of particles and the percentage of wastes replacement on fresh and hardened properties of concrete are also been discussed.

Abstract

This paper present glass waste material reusing in concrete as partial replacement of cement. Some hardened properties like compressive and flexural strengths, modulus of elasticity and % absorption was made. The effect of glass powder on these properties was examined compared to reference specimens without glass powder. Five percentage was tested: 0%(reference), 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. From tests results one can conclude that replacing cement partially by glass powder enhanced strengths of concrete (compression and flexural) up to 20% replacing level Using glass powder as partial replacement of cement improved strengths and modulus of elasticity of concrete. The %absorption decrease with increasing of glass powder content. The results show that utilization of waste glass as powder in concrete can reduce amount of cement which save cost besides its environmental benefits.

Abstract

This paper studies the properties of normal and high strength self-compacting concrete in fresh and hardened state, six of self-compacting with normal and high strength concrete mixes were prepared with different percentage of fibers(0, 0.4%, and 0.8%) where used to find out the effect of the addition of steel fibers on the properties of self-compacting concrete in fresh state (Filling ability, Passing ability and Segregation resistance) and hardened state (compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of rupture, and modulus of elasticity) of concrete.The study shows that the Addition of steel fibers in self-compacting concrete enhances compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity relative to self-compacting concrete cast without steel fibers for both type of self-compacting concrete strength (normal strength (NSCC) and high strength (HSCC)).

يهدف البحث الى دراسة خواص الخرسانة ذاتية الرص في حالتيها اللدنة والصلبة ولهذا الغرض تم اعداد (6) خلطات خرسانية ذاتية الرص ذات المقاومة الاعتيادية والمقاومة العالية كما تم اضافة الالياف الحديدية وبنسب مختلفة ( 0 ، 0,4 ، 0,8) % وذلك لدراسة تاثيرها على خواص الخرسانة ذاتية الرص في حالتها اللدنة حيث تم دراسة قابليتها على الملئ والمرور من خلال حديد التسليح ومقاومتها للانعزال ، اما في حالتها الصلبة فقد تم دراسة مقاومة الانضغاط ومقاومة الشد الانفصالي ومعامل الكسر ومعيار المرونة في حالتها الصلبة.اوضحت الدراسة ان اضافة الالياف الحديدية له تاثير كبير على خواص الخرسانة في حالتها اللدنة كما انه يعزز من خواص الخرسانة في حالتها الصلبة حيت تزداد مقومة الانضغاظ ومقاومة الشد الانفصالي ومعامل الكسر معيار المرونة لكلا النوعين من الخرسانة العادية والعالية المقاومة.

Abstract

In this work, waste glass powder from broken windows and plastic fibers from waste polyethylene terephthalate bottles are utilized to produce an economical self-compact concrete. Fresh properties (slump flow diameter, slump Flow T50, V. Funnel, L–Box), mechanical properties (Compressive strength and Flexural strength) and impact resistance of self-compact concrete are investigated. 15% waste glass powder as a partial replacement of cement with five percentages of polyethylene terephthalate plastic waste were adopted: 0% (reference), 0.5%, 0.75%, 1%, 1.25% and 1.5% by volume. It seems that the flow ability of self-compact concrete decreases with the increasing of the amount of plastic fibers. The compressive strength was increased slightly with plastic fiber content up to (0.75%), about 4.6% For more than (0.75%) plastic fiber. The compressive strength began to decrease about 15.2%. The results showed an improvement in flexural strength and an impact on the resistance in all tested specimens’ content of the plastic fibers, especially at (1.5%) fibers.

Abstract

This paper mainly presents the producing of self-compacting high performance concrete (SCHPC) incorporating silica fume (SF) as a supplementary cementing material. Various percentages of replacement by weight of cement were tried including 5, 10 and 15%. The water/ binder (W/B) ratio and total binder content for all types of mixes were fixed at 0.30 and 484 kg/m3, respectively. The fresh properties of SCHPCs were investigated by slump flow, T50, V-funnel flow time and L-box (blocking ratio) tests. The hardened properties of SCHPCs were tested for bulk density, compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strengths and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). The results showed that there was a progressive decrease in flowability properties of SCHPC with increasing SF content. Whereas, test results the compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strengths and UPV increased with increase in SF levels. Furthermore, SCHPC mixture contains 10% cement replacement of SF exhibited higher values of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and UPV compared with control mix of SCHPC for 28 days. The final conclusion is that SF can be used as a sustainable supplementary cementing material in producing self-compacting high performance concretes.

هذا البحث يهدف اساسا الى انتاج خرسانة مستدامة ذاتية الرص عالية الاداء حاوية على غبار السليكا (Silica Fume) كمادة اسمنتية تكميلية. نسب الاستبدال للسيلكا كانت 5%, 10%, 15% من وزن الاسمنت. نسب الماء الى الاسمنت ومحتوى الكلي للمواد الرابطة لكل الخلطات 0.3 و 484 كغمم3 على التوالي. اجريت الفحوصات الطرية للخرسانة كانت slump flow, T50, V-funnel flow time and L-box (blocking ratio. والفحوصات المتصلبة كانت فحص الكثافة الكلية, مقاومة الانضغاط, والانشطار, والانثناء للخرسانة وكذلك فحص سرعة الموجات الفوق صوتية. اظهرت النتائج ان هناك تقليل تدريجي للخواص السيولة للخرسانة ذاتية الرص عالية الاداء مع زيادة محتوى السليكا. في حين ان مقاومة الانضغاط, والانشطار, والانثناء للخرسانة وكذلك فحص سرعة الموجات الفوق صوتية تزداد مع زيادة محتوى السيكا. وعلاوة على ذلك, نسبة استبدال 10% من السليكا ابدت قيم عالية من المقاومة بالمقارنة مع الخلطة المرجعية بعمر 28 يوم. الخلاصة النهائية في ذلك بالامكان استخدام السليكا كمادة سمنتية تكميلية مستدامة في انتاج خرسانة ذاتية الرص عالية الاداء.

Abstract

The main purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the behavior and strength of self-compacting reinforced concrete continuous deep beams with and without web reinforcement. The program included cast and test of five beam specimens, in which the vertical and horizontal shear reinforcement were varied. All specimens had the same length, depths and main flexural reinforcement ratio and they were subjected to concentrated vertical loads only. It was found that the addition of vertical shear reinforcement with minimum ratio (ρv=0.25%) increases the both of cracking and ultimate loads by about 10%, When vertical shear reinforcement is increased by about 80% (from 0.25% to 0.45%) a noticeable increases in the ultimate load capacity is observed (the enhancement reached to 18.6%).When providing horizontal web reinforcement of (ρh=0.343%) in addition to the provided vertical shear reinforcement (ρv=0.25%), the cracking and ultimate loads increased by about (17.5% and 25%) respectively, while the previous ratios of the cracking and ultimate loads increased to (20% and 33%) respectively when vertical shear reinforcement increased to (ρv=0.45%).
