Abstract

Epoxy composites were prepared with two sizes of carrot fibers in different weight percent (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) by hand lay-up technique. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor (tanä) of pure epoxy resin and composites were measured in a frequency range of 50 Hz to 5 MHz with increase fibers content, dielectric strength(breakdown voltage) and thermal conductivity were evaluated as a function of fiber content. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor values were found to be higher for fiber reinforced system than the pure epoxy. The dielectric strength values decreases and the values of thermal conductivity increases with fibers content.

Abstract

Theoretical and experimental investigations of composite material as thermal insulation consists of natural fibers (White feather, Jute, Egg shell, and Black feather) are present in this work. The experimental works are divided into two parts. The first part involved with the study of the thermal conductivity of the composite materials. Lee's disc method is used to measure the thermal conductivity of different types of natural composite materials. These values are compared with theoretical values of thermal conductivity calculated using Maxwell model. The effect of volume fraction on thermal conductivity is studied. The second part included building two rigs which have the dimensions (1m X 1m X 1m). The first rig used as reference and the second rig to measure the temperature distribution on the lower surface of the roof insulation. The effects of change in volume fraction, air gap, and types of natural composite insulation on temperature reduction are investigated. The results show that the (Jute composite material) gives good results as composite thermal insulation compared with other natural composite materials.

في هذا العمل تم التحقيق النظري و التجريبي للمادّةِ المركّبة كعازل حراري باستخدام ألألياف الطبيعيةِ (ريشة الدجاج الأبيض، نبات الحوت، قشر البيض، ريشة الدجاج الأسود(ِ. يقسم هذا العمل إلى قسمين: يتضمن القسم الأول قياس الموصلية الحرارية للمواد المركبة الطبيعية باستخدام تقنية ( أقراص – لي).تمت مقارنة النتائج العملية للموصلية الحرارية مع النتائج النظرية المحسوبة باستخدام (نموذج ماكس ويل). تم دراسة تأثير قيم الكسر ألحجمي على قيم الموصلية الحرارية. في القسم الثاني تم بناء هيكلين إبعاد كل منهما (1مx1مx1م ) , الهيكل الأول يعتبر مصدر أساس لدرجات الحرارة المقاسة أما الهيكل الثاني فيستخدم لاختبار العوازل الحرارية وقياس درجة الحرارة على السطح السفلي للسقف. أثبتت النتائج تأثير الكسر ألحجمي, الفراغ الهوائي, بالإضافة إلى نوع العازل الطبيعي على مقدار التخفيض في قيم درجة الحرارة. وبينت النتائج إن استخدام العوازل الطبيعية المصنوعة من مادة نبات الجوت تعطي نتائج جيدة في العزل الحراري بالمقارنه بالمواد المركبة الطبيعية الاخرى.

Abstract

This work involves using Saccharum short fibers as reinforcement for unsaturated polyester before and after chemical treatment for fibers. The chemical treatment was done in NaOH solution with different concentrations include 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.5 and 0.625 M at room temperature. The prepared composites were characterized by FTIR spectra to confirm the improvement of interaction between reinforcement and matrix through the reduction in hydrophilic groups. The investigation by FTIR showed the improving of the adhesion between reinforcement and polyester as matrix because of reduction of absorption the water. The impact toughness was tested for polymeric composites and the results indicated that the chemical treatment with NaOH led to increasing impact energy due to increasing bonding force between treated Saccharum fibers and matrix.

Abstract

Since the starting the 21st century, there is an increased awareness that non-renewable resources are becoming scarce, and dependence on renewable resources is growing. The 21st century may be the cellulosic century as we look more and more to renewable plant resources for products. It is easy to say that natural fibers are renewable and sustainable. Although the use of these materials is not new, horse hair was used in mortar and straw for mud bricks, and many plants types like sisal, coir, bamboo, jute, akwara, elephant grass…etc. In this papers, a human hair fibers (HHF) is studied as a reinforced material in cementitious material. A total of 86 concrete specimens (Cubes, cylinders, prisms and plates) are tested to study the effect of including human hair fibers HHF reinforcement on the mechanical properties of flowable mortar fiber reinforced concrete. Fibers of different lengths and equivalent diameters were used with an aspect ratio ranged from 500 to 700, fiber content ranges from zero to 1 percent by volume. The influence of fiber content on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and load deflection is presented for two w/c ratios (0.6 and 0.7). An improvement in the energy absorption capacity due to the fiber addition is observed, and the optimum fiber volume fracture is seen to be 0.8%. The experimental findings in our tested samples will encourage future researches in this direction for long term performance to extending this cheap type of fibers for use in structural applications especially for low strength cementitious materials.

منذ بداية القرن 21 ازدادت الوعي بان المصادر المتجددة اصبحت نادرة. فنمت الاعتماد على المصادر المتجددة , ويمكن تسمية قرن 21 بالقرن السليلوزي عند النظر الى منتجات المصادر النباتية. فيمكن القول بان الالياف الطبيعية هي هي مصادر متجددة ومستمرة. بالرغم من ان هذا المواد لا يعتبر جديدة, فشعر الحصان استعمل في المونة واستعمل القش في صناعة الطابوق الطيني, كما واستعمل الالياف النباتية الطبيعية كنبات السيزال, الليف الهندي, الخيزران, نبات الجوت وغيرها.في هذا لبحث, لقد تم فحص 86 نموذجا (مكعبات, اسطوانات,الموشور ,مع الصفائح الرقيقة) لدراسة تأثير اضافة الياف شعر الانسان كتسليح على الصفات الميكانيكية للكونكريت المسيل المسلح بألياف الشعر. لقد تم استعمال الياف ذات اطوال مختلفة و بمعدل قطر معين للحصول على حدود نسبةالنحافه يساوي 500-700.وتم دراسة التأثير الليفي على مقاومة الضغط,السحب و مقاومة الانحناء وكذلك دراسة منحنيات الحمل-الانحراف لنسب مختلفة من الماءالسمنت (0.6 و0.7). اضافة الليف بالنسبة الحجمية 0.8% ادى الى زيادة مقاومة كل من الضغط, السحب والانحناء وكانت 0.8% الحالة المثالية جدا لهذا التطور. مستجدات البحث سوف يؤدي الى زيادة الابحاث في مجال هذا النوع الرخيص من الالياف. ان اضافة الالياف اظهر كفاءته في زيادة مقاومة النماذج في الانواع السمنت ذات المقاومة القليلة

Abstract

In current time, most of the composites based on polymer resins reinforced with natural fibers than synthetic fibers for environmentally friendly consideration. This work investigate the study of tensile properties distribution of coir natural fiber by using Weibull statistics to quantify the degree of variability in fiber strength. Single-fiber tensile and microscopy tests were performed to determination the tensile properties (tensile strength and modulus of elasticity) and fiber crosssectionalarea respectively. The experimental results showed that the coir natural fiber have a good tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of 89.91–237.46 MPa and 2.55-8.78 GPa respectively. The Weibull distribution indicates that the coir natural fiber have a high degree of linearity of R2 = 0.942. The Weibull modulus for corn fibers was β = 3.650 , gives a good variability in tensile strength.
