Abstract

Dispersions of multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in liquid crystals (LCs)type 5CB have attracted attention due to their unique properties and possible applications in photonics and electronics. The results of the investigations of improved the electro-optical properties of liquid crystal optical switch are being presented here. The addition of MWCNT showed fast response time ,fast rise time,and lower threshold voltage.

Abstract

This research presents a technique of an electro optic effect for enhancement the an accomplishment of an electro optics switch using Mat lab simulation program . this technique includes design a mathematical model for evaluate the effect of different parameters such as refractive index (n), distance of separation between waveguides (d), length of electrodes (L), relative refractive index (Δn), and switching voltage (V), on the DC bias voltage of an electro optics switch. In this work the investigation of performance of an electro optics switch by analysis of an effect of distance between waveguides and the changing of refractive index on the bias voltage (V), and which optimizes when the wavelength is from 1300 into 1550 nm. Finally, an electro-optic active switch is designed and optimized, using the analytical model and which considers important device in the modern optical communication system.

Abstract

In this work, the electro-optical effects of two types of liquid crystal; pure liquid crystal (LC) and liquid crystal doped with cobalt nanoparticles (LC/Co) were studied. The difference between the two types those been jabbed led to different values of electro-optic properties because of the different susceptibilities of the materials. It was seen that the LC with cobalt nanoparticles was more responsive to the applied electric field owing to the nature of the constituent material (electric material) than the pure LC. The response time of the doped LC is greater than the response time of the pure LC, which makes the doped LC is the best in the optical switching applications.
