Abstract

Aim: To construct a nasal prosthesis for a patient with Rhino cerebral mucormycosis disease and of
near total Rhinectomy. Materials and method: a permanent soft lining material was adapted over
frame work of nose made from visible light cure denture base material, then cured, finished and
polished. Results the finished nose was retained by engaging undercut and by the use of eye glass.
Conclusion: A custom sculpted prosthesis combined with soft lining material gives a natural texture of
the nose was accomplished within 24 hour.

Abstract

AIMS: Prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient by extraoral appliance, restoring the losing eye, part of the nose, cheek, roof of the palate (left side), and improving esthetic, phonetic and mastication of the patient. METHODS: Impression and making of the working cast, Sculpture of the wax pattern, artificial eye made from acrylic resin, body of prosthesis made from acrylic resin lined with soft lining material, silicon elastomers of maxillofacial applied to the prosthesis for life like skin appearance, and delivery of the prosthesis to the patient. CONCLUSIONS: Many methods of retaining the maxillofacial prosthesis have been used like tissue under cuts,magnets, medical adhesives, osseointegrated implants or combination of them. The prognosis was poor for the prosthetic treatment because of the extensive defect size, radiation applied all around the defect area make a challenge to get benefit from implant fixed in the surrounding bony area to enhance the retention of the prosthesis, and little bony support. Abstract

In this research, an analysis of some transitions diverse and study their effect on indicators of range of motion for the disabled after wearing the B.k prosthesis, and the most important aimed of the research is to identify the most important indicators of range motion of some transitions for the disabled after wearing the prosthesis, which includes walking on the ground flat and walking during the rise and descent of the slope, and then identify the differences between these indicators under different traffic conditions. The study was conducted on a sample from a disabled patients who are in the clinic education at the Medical Rehabilitation / P&O Dep. in Institute of Medical Technology-Baghdad, from 1 4 2010 to 30 4 2010, and the most important conclusions reached by the research that the weakness of articulation of the foot industrial led to the transmission of the outcome of the forces to the back and front of the knee joint and hip during the rise and descent of the slope, and even more than is needed, which led to the impact on indicators of range of motion of these joints during the performance of the movement of walking. In addition, we find that the change in the angler relationship between the parts of the artificial limb and amputated limb led to impact on indicators of range of motion of joints of lower limb, which significantly affected on the measurements of the stride length,and the most important recommendations is the need to rely in the curriculum rehabilitation of persons with disabilities on the numerous instances of walking to acclimate the patient to address all the various constraints that will be encountered during the walk outside

تم في هذا البحث تحليل بعض الحركات الانتقالية المتنوعة ودراسة تأثيرها على مؤشرات المدى الحركي للمعاقين بعد لبس الطرف الصناعي تحت الركبة، أما أهم أهداف البحث فهي التعرف على أهم مؤشرات المدى الحركي الخاصة ببعض الحركات الانتقالية للمعاقين بعد لبس الطرف الصناعي والتي تشمل المشي على الأرض المستوية والمشي في أثناء صعود ونزول المنحدر، ومن ثم التعرف على الفروق بين هذه المؤشرات تحت ظروف الحركة المختلفة. ولقد تم إجراء هذه الدراسة على عينة مكونة من مريض وبعدد (1) واحد وهو احد المرضى المعاقين المتواجدين في العيادة التعليمية في قسم التأهيل الطبي صناعة الأطراف والمساند في المعهد الطبي التقني بغداد من 142010 إلى 3042010، ومن أهم الاستنتاجات التي توصل إليها البحث أن ضعف الحركة المفصلية للقدم الصناعية أدت إلى انتقال محصلة القوى إلى خلف وأمام مفصل الركبة والورك في أثناء صعود ونزول المنحدر ، وبصورة اكبر مما هو مطلوب مما أدى إلى التأثير على مؤشرات المدى الحركي لهذه المفاصل في أثناء أداء حركة المشي، بالإضافة إلى ذلك فأننا نجد أن التغير في العلاقة الزاوية بين أجزاء الطرف الصناعي والطرف المبتورة أدى إلى التأثير على مؤشرات المدى الحركي لمفاصل الطرف السفلي والذي اثر بشكل كبير على القياسات الخاصة بالخطوة الكبيرة، أما أهم التوصيات فهي ضرورة الاعتماد في المناهج التأهيلية للمعوقين على تعدد حالات المشي لتأقلم المريض على مواجهة جميع العوائق المختلفة التي سوف تواجهه في أثناء المشي في الخارج.

Abstract

Aims: To determine the ideal dimensions of the artificial dental arch by measuring the dimensions of dental arch of completely dentulous subjects and to find the relation of these dimensions to some facialmeasurements. Materials and Methods: The sample of study consisted of 54 completely dentulous adult subjects (24 females and 30 males) with Class 1 normal occlusion aged 19–24 years. Dental casts were taken for each subject and the dimensions of the dental casts and the facial measurements were made by using digital vernier caliper. The data were analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Science program. Results: The dimensions of the dental arches and the facial measurements of themale group was larger than that of female and there was high correlation between some dimensions of dental arch with some of the facial measurements. Conclusions: The width of the dental arches of theartificial dental prosthesis could be determined depending on the extraoral facial measurements as the percentage of upper intercanine distance to mouth width is 74.43% and the percentage of the upperinter first molar distance to bizygomatic width was 40.65%

Abstract

This research is interested to investigate the optimum design procedure for a finger driving mechanism to have a proper configuration of the finger for its utilization in hand prosthesis. To get this goal, a Genetic Algorithm (G.A) was used. Three criteria were selected to find the optimal solution. The most important of them was the percentage of the grasping stability. This criterion was evaluated as must type by using Kepner-tregos method. When the optimal solution was found, this one was modified to facilitate the fabrication of a prototype. The modifications consist of mostly rounding the parameters and uniforming the rollers dimensions. Those changes did not affect too much the forces characteristics. The prosthetic hand prototype was built of hard ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic using rapid prototyping. Testing results indicate that the proposed Genetic Algorithm gives reasonable -quality results in short computation time.

يهتم هذا البحث بالتحقق عن اسلوب التصميم الامثل لالية تحريك الاصابع للحصول على شكل ملائم للاصابع عند استخدامه في اليد الصناعية. للوصول لهذا الهدف , استخدمت الخوارزمية الوراثية.تم اختيار ثلاث معايير لايجاد الحل الامثل. وكان الاكثر اهمية من بينها النسبة المئوية لاستقرار القبضة. وتم تصنيف هذا المعيار من النوع الالزامي باستخدام طريقة كبنر-تريكوز. وعند ايجاد الحل الامثل, تم تعديل أبعاد الاصبع ليلائم تصنيعه كأنموذج. تضمنتمعظم التعديلات تقريب المعاملات وتجانس ابعاد المدحرجات, ولم تؤثر تلك التغيرات كثيرا على خصائص القوى. تم تصنيع أنموذج اليد الصناعية من مادة ABS اللدائنية المصلدة بأستخدام النمذجة السريعة. أظهرت نتائج الاختبارات بأن الخوارزمية الوراثية المقترحة تعطي نتائج ذات نوعية عالية في زمن حسابي قصير.

Abstract

Aim of the study: To evaluate the mobility of the dental implant at the time of loading, after three months and six months from the loading of the implants in the patient's mouth of two types of retaining methods (cemented and screw type). Materials and Methods: A total of twenty dental implants were implanted in 20patients. These patients divided into 2 groups. The first group received screw retained prosthesis. The second group received cemented retained prosthesis. The stability of these implants was measured using periotest device at the time of loading, 3monthes and six months after loading. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistic, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), Duncan Multiple analysis range test and student t-test. Result: Among the two groups, the group receiving screw retaining prosthesis having a significant greater stability than that group receiving cemented type retaining prosthesis. Conclusion: the residual dental cement that remain after cementation of the cemented retaining prosthesis, affect directly on the perodontium health, and this subsequently affect on the stability of the dental implant.

Abstract

Aim: the study was undertaken to assess the effect of various metal oxides on somemechanical properties of acrylic resin.Materials and methods: Two hundred acrylic specimens were constructed in total.There were two tests utilized (transverse and hardness). For each test, there werenine experimental groups according to the type of metal oxides used. Thespecimens without use any of metal oxides were considered as control. Fortransverse test, the specimens were exposed to loads until fracture. For hardnesstest, the specimens were tested; values were obtained. All data were analyzed andcompared using ANOVA and tukey tests.Results: the addition of metal oxides at different concentrations enhanced thetransverse strength of acrylic. Significant differences were statistically foundbetween experimental groups and control group (P<0.001); among experimentalgroups (P<0.001). For hardness test, there was a slight increase in the mean valuesof hardness of clear acrylic as the concentration of metal oxides increases. Nosignificant differences were statistically found among experimental groups(P>0.05); between experimental groups and control group (P>0.05) except therewas significant difference between control and 5% TiO2 group (P<0.05).Conclusion:The incorporation of metal oxides improved the transverse strength andsurface hardness of acrylic resin.

Abstract

The present work covers the analytical design process of three dimensional (3-D) hip joint prosthesis with numerical fatigue stress analysis. The analytical generation equations describing the different stem constructive parts (ball, neck, tour, cone, lower ball) have been presented to reform the stem model in a mathematical feature. The generated surface has been introduced to FE solver (Ansys version 11) in order to simulate the induced dynamic stresses and investigate the effect of every design parameter (ball radius, angle of neck, radius of neck, neck ratio, main tour radius, and outer tour radius) on the max. equivalent stresses for hip prosthesis made from titanium alloy. The dynamic loading case has been studied to a stumbling case. The load has been applied on the cap tip as a concentrated load distributed on the interface of ball and socket. The results show that the decreasing of max. Fatigue stress by (175) MPa could be obtained by increasing the outer tour radius from (10)mm to (15) mm and that will change the max. Fatigue zone location from the tour section to the neck. The ball radius and neck angle must be as lower as possible to decrease the fatigue stresses. The most dominate parameter to increase the safety factor is the radius of neck.

هذا العمل يغطي تصميم بديل مفصل الورك ثلاثي الابعاد مع التحليل العددي لاجهادات الكلال. معادلات التوليد النظرية التي تصف الاجزاء البنائية للبديل (الكرة, العنق, الوصلة, المخروط, الكرة السفلى) تم تقديمها لتكوين نموذج البديل بصورة رياضية . اما ادخال السطح المولد الى محلل العناصر المحددة (Ansys version 11 ) لمحاكاة الاجهادات الديناميكية المتولدة ودراسة تأثير كل متغير (نصف قطر الكرة العليا, زاوية ميل العنق, نصف قطر العنق, نسبة العنق, نصف قطر الوصلة الرئيسي, نصف قطر الوصلة الخارجي) على الاجهادات العظمى المكافئة لبديل ورك مصنوع من سبيكة التيتانيوم حالة التحميل الديناميكية درست لحالة التعثر . تم تسليط حمل مركز على قمة غطاء المفصل وموزعاً على سطح الكرة والتجويف. اظهرت النتائج بأنه يمكن تقليل اجهاد الكلال الاعظم بمقدار 175 ميكا باسكال بزيادة نصف قطر الوصلة الخارجي من (10) الى (15) ملم و ذلك سوف يغير موقع منطقة اعظم اجهاد كلال من مقطع الوصلة الى منطقة العنق. نصف قطر الكرة و زاوية العنق يجب ان يكونا باقل مايمكن لتقليل اجهادات الكلال. المتغير الاكثر تاثيرا في زبادة معامل الامان هو نصف قطر العنق.

Abstract

The modern development in prosthetics field demand the evaluation of the dynamical behavior and automatic control .The key process in the design and implement of these devices is the determination of the model parameters inherited with the transfer function .In such complicated structures it is so difficult to evaluate transfer function analytically ,however experimental approaches can serve as a simple and effective tool for estimating transfer function and model parameters .In this regard computer software such as Matlab is used .System Identification SID refers to the method for estimating the system transfer function from experimental tests by using computer .In the present paper; SID method is employed for analyzing below-knee prosthesis leg .In order to simulate with the practical requirement for design and evaluation ,two phases of human gait are considered ,namely; swing phase and single support of stance phase .The validity of this method is firstly checked by applying it on clamped-clamped beam model where the required parameters are evaluated and compared theoretically (via modal analysis) and experimentally (via System identification) .It is found that ; the error in estimating the transfer function parameter of beam is not exceeded 6% . Then the transfer function of the prosthesis are estimated for two phases of gait cycle .It is found that; the estimated transfer function of the prosthesis leg is highly affected by the phase type of gait cycle , where ;the natural frequency highly increases, the static gain decrease for support phase as compared with the swing phase ,however the damping ratio does not affected .

التطويرات الحديثة في مجال الأطراف الصناعية تتطلب تقييم السلوك الديناميكي و عمليات السيطرة.الذاتية , ان اهم عملية في تصميم وتنفيذ هذه الأجهزة هو تحديد معالم النموذج المرتبطة مع دالة الخصائصTF .في مثل هذه الاجسام المعقدة من الصعب جدا ايجاد دالة الخصائص بطريقة تحليليه، ولكن النهج التجريبية يمكن أن توفر أداة بسيطة وفعالة لتقديرهما عبر استخدام تقنية تعريف الموديل .في هذا المجال يتم استخدام برنامج الكمبيوتر مثل برنامج الماتلاب. في هذا البحث تم توضيف الطريقة لتحليل طرف صناعي تحت الركبة. ومن أجل المحاكاة مع المتطلبات العملية تم اختيار مرحلتين من مشية الإنسان، وهما طور التارجح وطور الاسناد. تم في البداية عمل فحص لهذه الطريقه من خلال تطبيقها على عتبة محكمة الاسناد لايجاد الخصائص المطلوبة ومقارنتها من الناحية النظرية (عبر تحليل الاطوار) وتجريبيا (عن طريق تحديد نموذج) حيث تبين ان نسبة الخطأ لا تتعدى6% لحالة العتبة ,ومن ثم تم تطبيق الطريقة التجريبية على الطرف الصناعي ولطورين من دورة المشي. حيث وجد ان الدوال المخمنة للطرف الصناعي تتاثر بشدة بنوع طور المشية حيث ان التردد الطبيعي يزداد بشدة والربح يقل لحالة طور التارجح بالمقارنة مع طور الاسناد في حين ان نسبة التخميد لم تتاثر.

Abstract

Background: Cross contamination of dental appliances in the dental clinics and laboratories may potentially be a health hazard to the dental team and the patient. This study aimed to evaluate bacterial contamination of acrylic complete denture as received from dental laboratory before delivery to the patient, and then to evaluate the effectiveness of disinfection with 2% chlorhexidine and Kin denture cleaner tablet.Materials and methods: 45 newly made upper complete dentures undergone biaacterial examination for contamination before delivered to the patient. Samples were examined in two stages, first after finishing and polishing; when collected from the laboratory and before inserting to the patient mouth, second; after the samples were immersed in 2 different disinfectant materials, 2% chlorhexidine mouth wash and Kin denture cleaner tablet. After initial stage, the dentures were divided into 3 groups. Group 1 immersed in Kin denture cleaner tablet for 10 minutes, group 2 immersed in 2% chlorhexidine mouth wash for 10 minutes and group 3 immersed for 20 minutes in 2% chlorhexidine. Data were analyzed with a computer-run statistical program (IBM SPSS Version 23).Results: High score of bacterial contamination was found initially in the sample collected from dental laboratory. Significant reduction in the colonies number was noticed after immersing the dentures in 2% Chlorhexidine and Kin denture cleaner tablets for10 minutes. There was nearly no contamination found with samples immersed in 2% chlorhexidine for 20 minutes.Conclusion: Dental laboratory is a main source of microbial contamination. Immersion of the dental prosthesis in disinfectant materials is essential before inserting into the patient mouth. 2%chlorhexidine mouth wash was more effective as disinfection material as compared to Kin denture cleaner tablet.
