Some Protozoan Species Inhabiting the East Bank Sediment of River Tigris in Baghdad City

Abstract

There are no researches in Iraq concerned identification and ecology of protozoa in sediment. The present study has been dealt with free-living protozoa community of the Tigris river bank sediment in Baghdad city. Variable species of vegetation (reeds and wild grasses) were observed to grow at both sides of the river. For the present study three sites were chosen at the east side of river Tigris. Monthly samples were collected from the sediment of each site over a period from January to October 2012.Total of 22 taxa were found, 12 of ciliates, 5 of each flagellates and sarcodines in the sediment samples. The highest numbers of protozoan 15 taxa were recorded from each of the sites 1&3 and little less taxa (13) were found in site 2. Among ciliates community Cyclidium sp. and Uronema marinum were found constantly in all investigated sites, meanwhile Cinetochilum sp. and Stylonychia sp. were belonged to accessory taxa. Among the testacies community Actinophrys sol was the only accessory species in all investigated sites. In general the soil at all sites was predominately by ciliates, meanwhile all flagellates species were absence in site 2.

لم يسبق أن اجريت دراسات في مجال تصنيف و بيئة ابتدائيات الرواسب النهرية في العراق٬ البحث الحالي يتناول دراسة مجاميع الابتدائيات الحرة المعيشة في رواسب ضفاف نهر دجلة في مدينة بغداد ٬حيث لوحِّظ نمو مختَلف أنواع النباتات ( ألقصب و ألحشائش ) على جانبيّ آلنهر. في هذه الدراسة تم اختيار ثلاثة مواقع من نهر دجلة، حيث تم جمع العينات شهرياً من رواسب كل موقع خلال الفترة (من كانون الثاني و لغاية تشرين الاول 2012) ٬ تم ايجاد 22 مَرتبة تصنيفية من الابتدائيات ٬ منها 12 من الهُدبيات و 5 لكل من السُّوطيات و اللَّحميات ٬ أعلى عدد من المراتب التصنيفية للابتدائيات كان 15 مرتبة تصنيفية وقد تم تسجّيلَهُ في كل من المواقع 1 و 3 ٬ وأدنى قليلاً من ذلك العدد والذي كان 13 مرتبة تصنيفية سُجِّلَ من الموقع 2. في مجاميع الهُدبيات كان Cyclidium sp. و Uronema marinum من الانواع الدائمة الظهور في حين كان Cinetochilum sp. و Stylonychia sp. من الانواع عرَّضية الظهور أما في مجاميع اللحميات كان Actinophrys sol النوع الوحيد عرَّضي الظهور في جميع المواقع المدروسة، وعموما الهُدبيات دائمة الظهور في كل المواقع المدروسة في حين لم يتم تسجيل اي نوع من السُّوطيات في الموقع 2.

Abstract

Results of current study indicate that parasitic protozoa still a real threat to public health in Iraq. The current study spotlight the diagnosis of infection in hospitalization Wasit governorate by using routine parasitic laboratory testsandradiological examinations. Out of 3350, 1780 (98.18%) and 33 (1.82%) were infected with Entamoeba histolytica and Leishmaina donovani, with overall prevalence was 65.33% for both pathogenic protozoa. The CT scan and ultrasonography in Amoebiasis revealed hepato-splenomegaly 96.66%, Amebic liver abscess2.35%, pleural effusion and Peri-hepatic fluid collection 0.54% and 0.45% respectively. Whereas in Leshmaniasis included Hepatosplenomegaly 48.5%, Ascites 24.2%, Lymphadenopathy15.2%, multiple nodular lesions in the liver and spleen 6.1% and shrinkage liver3.0%. A high number of cases in a region of present study were closely associated with an unusually distribution of a reservoir for human parasitic disease, in addition attributed to lower socioeconomic status and lack ofhealth education. But a ray of hope in the time as the health education is the key changing the attitude of the public is a particular and important for disabling these. In conclusion, we recommended widely using simultaneously radiological test with other criteria for more accuracy diagnosis.

Abstract

Background:As arelationshipbetween gingivitis disease and the presence of the oral protozoa Trichomonastenax hasbeen represented byconsiderable differences among various study population.The purpose of present study isdetermining the prevalence of T.tenax in patients with gingivitis and healthy subjects.Subjects,Materials and Methods:The presence of the parasite has been diagnosed with 58 patients withgingivitisand58 healthy persons during the period of the study(April and May 2015) by taken two swabs for each one,microscopicexamination was done using saline wet mount method and stained method. Age, sex and brushing teeth habitwere in a count. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS program.Results:Gingivitis disease was observed in 58patients among the total 163 examined subjects(35.58%)with a highlysignificant differences P<0.01 recorded between males and females(40.22%,30.26% respectively).The prevalence ofT.tenax in gingivitis patients was higher than healthy(56.89%,6.89%)respectively. According to gender and age thehighly prevalence rate was demonstrated in males (62.85%)and in the age category 51-60 years old (92.8%). Dataanalysis showed that a highly significant differences P<0.01was demonstrated in the prevalence rate betweenbrushing teeth users 29.1% and non-brushing teeth users 11.9%.Conclusion:The study confirmed the existence of a relationship between parasite infection and gingivitis diseasewhere the higher prevalence of T.tenaxwas found in gingivitis patients compared with healthy controls. Peopleshould receive dental care togain high hygiene oral cavity and have low infection to T.tenax

Abstract

The study carried out in order to investigation the prevalence of gastro -intestinal protozoa in feces of buffaloes in Babylon governorate (Iraq) during the period between November 2014 to May 2015.Atotal of 200 fecal samples of buffaloes ( 50calves , 60 males and 90 females) ,the highest prevalence rate with Eimeria spp. was in calves (36%) ,males (8.3%) females (10%) followed by closed rate with Cryptosporidium spp. which was recorded (16%) in calves , (13.3%) in males, and (4.4%) in females ,the prevalence rate was reported with Giaridia duodenalis in calves (20%) and (11.6% ,8.8%) in males and females respectivly. According to the age and sex , calves and males were showed highly infection rates with protozoa.

Abstract

Background: Intestinal parasites are endemic in many developing areas (WHO report 1998), and they considered as one of the most common tropical disease in developing countries ranges between 30-60 % Patients and Methods: The present study is a survey to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites in out and in patients of Al-karama hospital during the period from Jan 1999 to Nov. 2000. Stool samples examination was the test in establishing the results of the present study by direct microscopic examination. Q –square statistic test were used for evaluation the results Results: Results of the present study reveled that the most affected group of patients’ with intestinal parasites, those with 11-20 years old (32%), protozoa percentage of infection were (18.56%) significantly more than helminthes with (2.45%). Males were more infected with intestinal parasites (44.18%) than females (28.96%). The highest infection rate with helminthes was recorded at the period between March and Jun. Conclusion: Infection rate in BaghdadCity21.01,rotozoal18.56%,whichinclude E.histolytica12.14%,G.lambilia 4.9 % While helminth infection rate,2.45 %,include H.nana,1.17 %Enter.vermicularis,0.38 %,Asca.lambricoidus0.37 %.Femal infection rate8.21 % more than male4.01 %.

Abstract

To detect Anaplasma marginale among carrier cattle by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, 64 blood samples, from healthy cows in abattoir of Al-Nasiriyah city were collected from June till August, 2017 in this study. By targeting MAR1bB2 gene with the molecular weight of approximately 265 bp, Anaplasma marginale were detected in18 samples (28.125%). One of these positive sample was recoded in National Center for Biotechnology Information, NCBI; Gene Bank.

غرض التحري عن Anaplasma marginale في الماشية الحاملة للاصابة باستخدام تقنية تفاعل البوليميريز المتسلسل، جمع 64 نموذج دم من ابقار سليمة مظهريا في مجزرة الناصرية للفترة من حزيران الى اب 2017 في هذه الدراسة. عن طريق استهداف الجين MAR1bB2 بوزن جزيئي يقارب 265 bp ، اكتشفت Anaplasma marginale في 18 نموذجا (28,125%) وسجل احد النماذج الموجبة في المركز الوطني لمعلومات التقانات الحيوية، بنك الجينات.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Intestinal parasitic infections represent a relevant clinical problem especially in the developing countries, where they are responsible for morbidity and mortality in adults and children.Many epidemiological data are available for this type of infection in Iraq and other developing countries, but still we need to investigate more localities in order to know the difference in it’s frequency among different areas and to evaluate factors that affect such difference.AIM OF THE STUDY:This study was subjected to emphasize the problem of intestinal parasitosis among people in Samarra’a City and to visualize its distribution according to age and sex.METHODS:A total of 1050 patients (580 males and 470 females) , referred to the laboratory in a health center in Samarra’a City for the suspect of intestinal parasitosis, were subjected to stool examination by direct method during the period from January to May 2002.RESULTS:Among the 1050 stool samples examined, intestinal parasites were reported in 254 (24.19%), both sexes were nearly equally affected (24.46% in females & 23.96% in males). Interestingly infection with protozoa was predominating, the most common protozoa was Entamoeba histolytica /E.dispar (13.33%), the next common pathogenic protozoan found was Giardia lamblia (9.04%). Non pathogenic protozoan Entamoeba coli was seen in 17 individuals (1.62%).Only two cases of helminthes infections were reported in this study (0.2%), both were infected with Hymenolepis nana which is a tapeworm.Double infection was detected in two cases , one was infected with both Entamoeba histolytica /E.dispar and Giardia lamblia and the other one was infected with Giardia lamblia and Hymenolepis nana at the same time. No triple infection was reported during this study.CONCLUSION:Intestinal parasitosis represent a remarkable cause of gastrointestinal diseases, this study demonstrates that these infections are common in thearea under study

Abstract

A total of seven hundred and fifty of fecal samples were collected and examined for intestinal parasites in Basrah city during the period from July 1998 to June 1999. Six hundred and fifty specimen were collected from children admitted in Basrah Hospital for Birth and Child with or without diarrhea symptomes and one hundred from children outside the hospital.The highest percentage of infection was recorded in March (90%) and the lowest in January (11.7%). It was found that the percentage infection in female was (52.4%) while in male (51.2%), Moreover, the total percentage of infection with protozoa was (42.1%) and of helminths was (7.7%).

Abstract

Abstract: A case was a local breed queen 3 years old ,with history of parturition since 4 days and suffering from mild diarrhea with steatorrhea. The cat was examined clinically and the feces was examined by both direct and concentrated method. The clinical examination reveal that all vital sings were within normal values. There were no any trophozoites detected in both direct and flotation methods . despite , just one cyst was detected in direct smear there were numerous cysts were demonstrated in centrifugal flotation method by magnesium sulfate with 1.20 specific gravity.

الخلاصة: كانت الحالة هي قطة محلية عمرها ثلاث سنوات ولها تاريخ ولادة قبل أربع أيام , تعاني من إسهال معتدل مع زيادة طرح الدهون في البراز .تم فحص القطة سريريا وفحص برازها بالفحص المباشر والمركز.اظهر الفحص السريري ان المعايير الحيوية كانت ضمن الحدود الطبيعية بينما لم يشخص الطور الناشط في أي من الفحصين,وعلى الرغم من ان الفحص المباشر اظهر وجود كيس واحد الا ان عدة اكياس ظهرت في فحص التطويف بمحلول كبريتات المغنسيوم بوزن نوعي 1.20 .

Abstract

Five species of fish collected from the Tigris River at Tikreet city, Salah Al-Deen province, Iraq, were screened for protozoan parasites. Among four species of Cyprinidae and one Mugilidae, seven species of protozoan parasites were encountered and three are reported for the first time in Iraq. These parasites inlcuded Apiosoma megamicronucleatum (Timofeev), Eimeria sinensis Chen, Myxobolus musculi Keysselitz. Also, new host records in Iraq for Myxidium rhodei Léger and Myxobolus persicus Masoumian, Baska & Molnar.

تم جمع خمسة انواع من الاسماك من نهر دجلة عند مدينة تكريت، محافظة صلاح الدين. حيث تم فحص اربعة انواع من اسماك العائلة الشبوطية ونوعا واحدا من اسماك عائلة البياح لغرض الكشف عن الحيوانات الابتدائية المتطفلة. وقد كانت هذه الاسماك مصابة بسبعة انواع من الطفيليات. ومن بين هذه الطفيليات سجلت ثلاثة انواع (,Apiosoma megamicronucleatum Eimeria sinensis , Myxobolus musculi) لاول مرة في العراق. فضلا عن ذلك فقد تم تسجيل مضيفات جديدة لنوعين من الحيوانات الابتدائية المتطفلة (¸ Myxidium rhodei Myxobolus persicus).
