Abstract

Back ground: The shoulder joint is an elegant and complex piece of machinery. The rotator cuff tendons are keys to the healthy function of the shoulder and rotator-cuff tear is an especially painful injury and can happen at any age.Objectives; to evaluate the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of rotator cuff tear.Patients and method; From March 2013 to September 2015 forty eight patients were enrolled in a prospective comparative study and divided into full thickness, partial thickness tear or intact tendons according to clinical and ultrasonographic criteria and these results were assessed by surgery and results compared. Results: Sensitivity of clinical diagnosis was 95.3%., specifity 20% and predictive value 33.3% and sensitivity of ultrasonography was 100%, Specifity 37.5% and Predictive value of 100 %.Conclusions; Ultrasonography is well tolerated and cost-effective and useful test in diagnosis and detection of rotator cuff tear.

Abstract

Aims: To explore the upper lip thicknesses, height and it's relationship to the esthetic line. Materialsand Methods: The studying sample included 48, 41, 50 and 44 individuals of age 11, 12, 13 and 14years respectively. The subjects were Iraqi individuals of Class I normal occlusion, who live in centerof Mosul City. All subjects were radiographed with lateral cephalometric films, these films weretraced, the tracing included the upper lip thickness at skeletal points (A–A´ ), upper lip thickness atlabrale superius (Ls–Ls´), upper lip height at stromion superior to palatal plane and the upper liprelationship to the esthetic line. All these measurements were measured and then subjected to thestatistical analysis. Results: The results were demonstrated that the upper lip thickness (A–A`) and(Ls–Ls`) were only significant increase at 14 year age groups as compared with 11 years age group inmales. In female the upper lip thickness was only significant at 13 years group as compared with 11years age group, while the upper lip relationship to esthetic line showed only significantly greater valueat 14 years age group as compared with 13 years age group. Sex variation appeared a significantgreater value in male than female for the (Ls–E line) at 11 years age group, (A–A`) and (Ls–E line) at12 years age group, (Ls–Ls`) at 13 years age group and upper lip height at 14 years age group andupper lip height at 14 years age group. Conclusions: The soft tissue of upper lip profile parameterswere increased with increasing age group, and the upper lip significantly larger behind the esthetic linein female than male at 11, 12 and 14 years age groups.

Abstract

:To study the effect of the shield thickness of the surrounding on the total and photo peak relativity efficiency for the NaI(Tl),two NaI(Tl) detectors (3'' × 3'' ) and (1.5" × 1.5") crystals are used and the radioactive source is Cs-137 which emits (0.662) MeV photons at distance of(25)cm from the detector and (146.8µci) activity.
The Surrounded materials represented by cylinders of (35 )cm. long, and different thicknesses (2.5, 4.4, 5.6and8.9) mm. and different diameters (11, 16 and 21.5) cm. for the steel (Iron) cylinder.
For (1.5" × 1.5") and (3'' × 3'') detectors without cylinder, the total and Photo peck Relativity efficiency are (100%)relative to it selves.
While, increasing of the thickness of the cylinder, the total and Photo Peak Relativity efficiency decrease for the two size detector

Abstract

The aim of this work is to study the effect of the following parameters :reduction in thickness, length of contact, rolling radius, viscosity of lubricant oil, and roll speed on the lubricant film thickness which are pointed to as an independent variables. In order to illustrate the effect of these parameters, three types of lubricants ,A( Commercial rolling oil, known as Roll oil 981), B ( Forming cutting oil called Exx cut 225, with additive ) and C (Forming cutting oil called Exx cut 225 ). Were selected also three values for roll radius (55,65,and 75 mm), with three values for roll velocities (0.5, 1, and 1.5 m/s), and finally five values for reduction in thickness (75, 80, 85, 90, and 95%) were examined to cover all inquires in this work. The study shown that an increase in roll radius leads to increase in lubricant film thickness .At high reduction, the lubricant film thickness becomes very small, and requires the use of highviscosity lubricant.

Abstract

Background: Mandible is one of the largest and strongest facial bones but there are some areas which are physicallyweak and fractured easily, i.e., angle and condyle. Recent studies demonstrated the correlation of the risk ofmandibular angle fractures to the presence of the mandibular third molars. The aim of the present study was toevaluate the mandibular angular cortical thickness in relation to the presence and eruption status of mandibularthird molar to verify if the mandibular third molar represent a risk factor for angle fracture or not.Materials and methods: The angular cortical thickness was measured using tracing elements and panoramicradiograph of 160 Iraqi subjects aged from (20-28) years, they were divided equally into four groups according to thestatus of mandibular third molar which were: Subjects with agenesis of mandibular third molar, subjects withcompletely erupted mandibular third molar, subjects with complete bony impacted mandibular third molar andsubjects with extracted mandibular third molar.Results: Subjects with agenesis registered the greatest value in the mean angular cortical thickness followed bysubjects with extracted, completely erupted and complete bony impacted mandibular third molar respectively.Extraction of mandibular third molar improved the angular cortical thickness and this effect had a strong positivelinear correlation with the extraction duration.Conclusion: The measurement of the angular cortical thickness was greatly affected by the presence and eruptionstatus of mandibular third molar, such measurements registered its highest values in subjects with third molar agenesisand its lowest values in subjects with complete bony impacted third molar.

Abstract

background: The assessment of corneal thickness has gained importance in different fields of ophthalmology in recent years, and measurement of the central corneal thickness (CCT) has become an important part of a routine examination in refractive surgery.Aim: To determine the Correlation between Refractive Error and Central Corneal Thickness in A NAJAF Population with a Wide Range of Ametropia.Method: In a cross sectional observational study, Involved 399 eyes of 200 Patients for whom the cen-tral corneal thickness (CCT) was measured with Ultrasonic pachymetry (TOMEY PACHYME-TER SP-3000).The refractive error, including sphere, cylinder, and spherical equivalent (SE), were measured with Topcon (KR.8900) autorefractometer And Manual refraction.Examination of anterior segment using slit lamp and fundoscopy using volk + 90 D, were done to exclude any underlying pathology Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 30.71(range, 17 to 61) years. The mean spherical equiva-lent (SE) of the right eye was -3,2475 Diopter (range,-11.25 to 5.75 Diop-ters) while SE of the left eye was-3,2035 Diopter (range,-14.5 to 8.5 Diopters). The mean cen-tral corneal thick-ness(CCT) of the right eye 533,1600 Micron (range,407.00 to 635.00 Mi-cron) while CCT of the left eye was 532,7638 Micron (range,394.00 to 630.00 Micron). No significant correlation were found between spherical equivalent (SE) and central corneal thickness (CCT) of right and left eye among the studied group.Conclusion: No significant Relation found between Refractive errors and central corneal thickness (CCT).

Abstract

This paper describes the investigation of a corrosion behavior of bottom Plates of apotable water storage tank . The tank was internally inspected for the first time afterfourteen years of service. Paint blisters and rust spots were observed on the bottomplates. Sand blasting and repainting the bottom plates and shell plates were to be usedas a remedial work .However, during the sand blasting, holes and deep pitting were observed on thebottom plates. On-site visual inspection, magnetic flux leakage (MFL) inspection,ultrasonic testing (UT), and evaluation of the external cathodic protection (CP) systemwere used in the failure analysis. The failure is attributed to the ingress of water and itsimpoundment under the tank bottom along the periphery inside the ring wall and failureof water side epoxy coating.

هذا البحث يوصف سلوك التآكل الحاصل لقعر خزان ماء الشرب بعد أربعة عشر عاما منالاستخدام , وبعد فحصة لوحظ تفقع طبقة الصبغ وبقع الصدأ لقعر الخزان . . أثناء الفحص لوحظثقوب وتنقر عميق . تم إعادة صبغة بعد قصفة بالرمل للتنظيف و لإزالة بقايا نواتج التآكل كعلاج .منجهة أخرى أجريت فحوصات لا تدميرية (المغناطيسية ,فوق الصوتية ) لكشف التآكل غير المنظوروتقييم لعمل منظومة الحماية السالبة . أن سلوك التآكل يعزى إلى سيلان الماء وأحتجازة تحت الخزانعلى طول محيطة وفشل طلاء الأيبوكسي

Abstract

Where the native soils have poor structural qualities or are expansive, the soilinvestigation report may recommend importation of soils better suited to providing asubbase for structures. This requires considering two soil layers in bearing capacitycalculations.Calculation of the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow footing on a two layered systemof soil depends on the pattern of the failure surface that develops below the footing. For aweak clay layer overlaid by a top dense sand layer, previous studies assumed that thefailure surface is a punching shear failure through the upper sand layer and Prandtl'sfailure mode in the bottom weak clay layer.In this paper, the bearing capacity of subbase layer underneath by a soft clay layer isinvestigated. The properties of the subbase material are measured in the laboratory.Design charts were obtained which can be used to select the suitable thickness of thesubbase layer for a design allowable bearing capacity.

Abstract

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a high-frequency electromagneticmethod commonly applied to a number of engineering problems especially in the transportation sector. GPR surveys are routinely and successfully used for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) verification in many Transportation Agencies of the world in last ten years. The present work is to apply the GPR technique for a selected roads sectors to measure variation of pavement layers thickness, (surface layer, base course) hot-mix asphalt (HMA) material, and granular subbase layer.

تقنية جهاز فحص الأعماق التي تعتمد على طريقة أرسال نبضات كهرومغناطيسةعالية التردد، تستخدم بصورة واسعة لحل العديد من المشاكل الهندسية وخصوصاً في مجال الطرق. في السنوات العشرة الأخيرة أصبح أستخدام رادار فحص الأعماق بصورة شائعة وبنجاح كبيرة في عدد من مؤسسات الطرق والمواصلات في العالم، وذلك بأستخدامه لضمان جودة العمل وتوفير الأستشارة لمشاريع الطرق.في هذا البحث تم أستخدام تقنية الرادار الفاحص للأعماق في تحديد التغير في سمك طبقات الرصف الأسفلتي للطبقة السطحية وطبقة الأساس بالأضافة الى طبقة ما تحت الأساس الحبيبية، لعدد من الطرق ولمقاطع محددة.
