Abstract

Abstract:The effect of different doses of smoking on the some trace elements (Se,Zn, Pb, Cu) and cortisol hormone concentration have been studied.Four groups of smokers were used in this study to investigate the effect ofsmoking in trace element and cortisol hormone concentration in smokers andcompare the finding with nonsmokers group (control group).Mean values of cortisol hormone concentration in group I (consumed 10-20 cigar per day with 0.4mg nicotine/cigar) were found to be significantlyhigher (p 0.01) in comparison with the value of control group and highsignificantly higher (p 0.001) in group II who consumed 10-20 cigar per daywith 0.8 mg nicotine/cigar, and high significantly higher (p 0.001) in group

الخلاصة:تم أخذ أربع مجامیع من المدخنین لدراسة تأثیر التدخین على مستوى هرمون الكورتزول وبعضالعناصر النادرة ومقارنة النتائج مع مجموعة من غیر المدخنین.20 سیجار ة - لوحظ ارتفاع في مستوى هرمون الكورتزول لدى ألمجموعة الأولى من المدخنین ( 10في الیوم مع نسبه نیكوتین 0,4 مغم/سیجار ة) مقارنة مع مجموعة السیطرة، بینما كان الارتفاع واضح اً20 سیجار ة في الیوم مع نسبة نیكوتین 0,8 - جد اً في ألمجموعة الثانیة ( 17 شخص) من المدخنین ( 10مغم/سیجار ة) وكذلك كان الارتفاع واضح اً جد اً لدى المجموعتین الثالثة ( 14 شخص) والرابعة ( 18شخص) من المدخنین الذین یستهلكون 40 سیجارة أو اكثر في الیوم مع نسبة نیكوتین 0.4 مغم/سیجار ةو 0.8 مغم/سیجارة، على التوالي.كان تركیز عنصر السلینیوم في جمیع مجامیع المدخنین اقل من مجموعه السیطرة, والنقصان فيتركیز عنصر السلینیوم یزداد مع زیادة عدد السجائر ونسبه النیكوتین في ألسیجار ة.لم یلاحظ اختلاف في تركیز عنصر النحاس لدى ألمجموعة الأولى والثانیة بالمقارنة مع مجموعةالسیطرة, بینما كانت هناك زیادة في تركیز عنصر النحاس لدى ألمجموعة الثالثة والرابعة.لم یكن هناك تأثیر للتدخین على تركیز عنصر الزنك لدى جمیع مجامیع المدخنین ,بینما هناكارتفاع واضح في عنصر الرصاص لدى جمیع مجامیع المدخنین والزیادة في تركیز عنصر الرصاصتتناسب طردیا مع عدد السجائر ونسبه النیكوتین في ألسیجار ة.

Abstract

This work in during :the study of the quality of Shatt Al-Arab water in two locations in Hamadan Canl and the investigation of the effect of this water on two cultivars of date palms planted on the shores of the river.The following parameters were specified for investigation :pH; Electric conductivity(EC);Total dissolved solids (TDS); and concentrations of Cl,Ca,Fe,Cd ions. The results revealed that Shatt-Al-Arab water in the two locations is saline .It is also shown that the pH values fall within the normal limits as stated by FAO(International organization of Food and Agriculture).The T.D.S were within the permitted limits; Cl was in its highest value in station 2 in summer and in its lowest value in station 1 in winter. Ca and Fe were like Cl in their behaviour whereas Cd was in its highest value in station 1 in winter and in its lowest value in station 1 in summer .The obtained values in Summer ,were higher then those obtained in Winter concerning Cl,Ca,Fe and Cd in the Soil of both stations 1 and 2.The results also revealed significant variation among the cultivars ,the seasons and the stations of the study, Al-Hillawi cultivars and winter gave the highest value concerning Fe and Cd in the leaves , station 1 from Cd and station 2 respectively. The same can be said about overlaps which had significant variation in values .As far as the fruits are concerned ,the highest value was in station 1 from Fe,Cd and the cultivar of date did not have any significant effect .It was also revealed ,in the study ,that there was significant effect on theoverlaps on the content of the trace elements in the fruits

Abstract

Food safety issues and potential health risks in avian tissues are one of the most serious environmental concerns, this paper carries out probabilistic risk analysis methods to quantify trace elements bioaccumulation in chicken liver, gizzard, and lung content to assess the range of exposures for the people who consume the contaminated chicken. The concentrations of Al (aluminum), Mn (manganese), Cu (copper), Co (cobalt), and Zn(zinc) were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), using the stock standard solution of heavy metals and blank sample. Results show the contents of elements in bird tissues samples were in the range of (18.68-62.24, 1.6-18.6, 0.12-0.61, 2.12-24.95, 35.10-93.85 µg/g for Al, Mn, Co, Cu, and Zn respectively. A risk assessment on human health beings due to consumption of chicken was performed using toxic reference benchmark, namely the reference dose (RfD). The hazard index (HI), sum of the hazard quotients calculated for all pollutants have shown that the risks of fowls consumption were generally low and are within safe limits.

Abstract

To assess serum zinc , copper, and magnesium level in type 2 - diabetic patients and the effect of age , gender, glycemic control on these trace elements in comparison with those of control subjects. There were 45diabetic patients and 45 age matched non- diabetic ( control) subjects included in this study .Serum zinc , serum magnesium and serum copper and fasting blood sugar measured among the diabetic and control groups and association of both trace elements were assessed with glycemic status , age, gender of diabetes , using SPSS for analysis. The result show the significantly decreased levels of Zn and Mg , whereas increased levels of Cu(p<0.001) in type 2 DM patients when compared to control groups. There was no association of age , gender glycemic status. We suggest that evaluate the above trace elements in early stage of diabetes , otherwise it may contribute in the development of further vascular complications in diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Extensive reports denote the biological role of trace elements (Cu Zn ", Se ') in many various physiological and pathological conditions, one of the list is shown to be Behcet's disease (BD).The aim of this study was directed towards the distribution of trace elements (Cu 2,Zn, 2,Se 2) in sera of BD patients, and control groups.Methods: Fifty Arab Iraqi patients who fulfdled the ISO criteria for diagnosis BD.compared with 21 patients control with recurrent oral ulcer (ROU), healthy control groups (2Ihealthy relative and 21healthy volunteer). Typing HLA Class I was carried out at Alkarama hospital, by using microlympho-cytotoxicity test. Abstract

Abstract Objective: To confirm the importance of Chromium trace element in complicated diabetic foot in addition to complement C3 & C4.Patients & Methods: This study was done in Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital “Diabetic Center” and Al-Karama Teaching Hospital throughout a period from November 2002 – July 2003. It included 60 diabetic patients who were divided into two groups, depending on the presence of complications. In addition the study included 20 healthy subjects matched for age and sex as control group. Measurement of F.B.S. was done for each patients. Measurement of serum level of Chromium, by using shimadzu atomic absorption flame emission spectrophotometer and measurement of C3 & C4 complement by using immune diffusion assay kite was also done for each subject.Results: Study reveal that there is lowered Chromium trace element and a lowered level of C3 complement than C4 among complicated diabetic foot more than other groups. Conclusion: We concluded that there is a deficiency of Chromium among a complicated diabetic patient in addition to that this study show deficiency of complement C3 more than C4. الملخص:أجريت الدراسة في م. الكرامة التعليمي والمركز الوطني للسكر في م. اليرموك التعليمي للفترة من تشرين الثاني 2002 إلى شهر تموز 2003 حيث تم دراسة عنصر الكروميوم في الدم مع قياس احد الأجزاء المهمة في الجهاز المناعي سي 3 وسي 4 عند المرضى المصابين بالسكر واجريت الدراسة على ثمانون مريض قسموا إلى ثلاثة مجاميع المجموعة الاولى تحتوي على (40) مريض مصابين بالسكر والمجوعة الثانية تحتوي على (20) مريض مصابين بالسكر مع مضاعفاته والتي تشمل التهاب الانسجة الرخوة في القدم مع كانكرين والمجموعة الثالثة تحتوي على 20 شخص غير مصاب وقد تبين ان المرضى المصابين بالسكر مع مضاعفاته هنالك انخفاض في عنصر الكروميوم في الدم بالمقارنة بالمرضى الغير مصابين بالسكر مع انخفاض في احد عناصر الجهاز المناعي سي 3 اكثر من سي 4 وهذا يدل على ان عنصر الكروميوم يعتبر من العناصر المهمة لعمل الأنسولين في الدم.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a systemic infection of the reticulo- endothelial system that could affect on immune system and biochemical parameters like the concentration of trace elements which may be significantly changed . OBJECTIVE: Evaluating the level of cytokines (INF- γ ,IL-10) and concentration of Zn in Visceral Leishmaniasis in children after diagnosis . PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of (98) child their ages rang (6m-5y) were attending to the Central Public Health Laboratory and Teaching Laboratories of Medical City suspected to be infected with kala-azar, the diagnosis was done by both IFAT technique and Rapid Kala-azar (r-K39) detecting test and evaluating the level of cytokines (INF- γ, IL-10) by ELISA and concentration of trace element ( Zn ) by Atomic Absorption Technique . RESULTS : The dipstick test ( r-K39) showed a high sensitivity of (92.1%) compared to IFAT (73.6%) with a specificity of 100% for both tests. Serum samples of 56 child with positive results in IFAT and rK39 test were used for the investigation of IL-10, IFN-γ. The mean levels of IL-10 (80.207±77.54 Pg/ml) and IFN- γ (5.426±4.599 IU/ml) were highly significant increased in patients compared to healthy controls .The mean level of serum Zn (69.71±7.97μg/dl) was significantly low in VL patients compared to healthy controls .CONCLUSION : This study showed that the ( r-K39) dipstick test could be more sensitive than IFAT technique in the diagnosis of VL with a specificity of 100 % for both test according to clinical diagnosis. Both IFN-γ & IL-10 were significantly increased in VL patients as compared to controls group. The concentration of Zinc was significantly lower in VL patients than healthy controls.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between Serum levels of Zinc(Zn), Copper(Cu), calcium(Ca) Ceruloplasmin(Cp),and Non–Ceruloplasmin-Bound Copper (NCC) in lung and liver cancer patient, by used serum of forty male,( 40 – 65 ) years aged were divided into three groups, which included liver cancer patients group composed of ten patients, lung cancer patients group composed of ten patients and twenty healthy or control groups. The results of this study showed significant increase in levels of Ceruloplasmin , copper, calcium and Non-ceruloplasmin _ bound copper in lung cancer and liver cancer groups if compare to control group. The level of Zinc (Zn) was significantly (P<0.05) decreased in patients lung and liver cancer groups if compare to control group.

أجريت هذه الدراسة لتقييم العلاقة بين معدل السيرولوبلازمين والعناصر (النحاس والزنك والكالسيوم ) السيرولوبلازمين الغير مرتبط بالنحاس لمرضى سرطان الكبد والرئة باستعمال أربعون عينة مصل رجال أعمارهم تتراوح بين 40-65 سنة وقسمت العينات إلى ثلاثة مجاميع تشمل مجموعة مرضى سرطان الكبد وتتألف من عشرة مرضى ومجموعة مرضى سرطان الرئة وتتألف من عشرة مرضى إضافة إلى عشرون عينة من مصل رجل سليم كمجموعة سيطرة . اظهرت النتائج وجود ارتفاع معنوي (P≤0.05) في معدل السيرولوبلازمين والعناصر (الكالسيوم والنحاس) السيرولوبلازمين الغير مرتبط بالنحاس في مجاميع المرضى (سرطان الرئة والكبد) ، وانخفاضا معنويا عند(P≤0.05) في تركيز الزنك لمرضى سرطان الرئة والكبد جميع هذه المستويات تمت بالمقارنة مع مجموعة الأصحاء .

Abstract

Breast cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease globally. The absolute risk of breast cancer increases with age for women . Study the role of trace elements in the blood such as (copper and zinc) and biomarkers breast cancer diagnosis such as GST, ALP . had been measured in serum of 60 women with breast disease , divided to :. the first group (A) (30) women benign breast tumors , the second group (B) (30)women breast cancer. Evaluated of serum copper and zinc of breast cancer women was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry , and the level of (GST)(Glatathione – S- transfers) enzyme and ALP(Alkaline phosphates ) enzyme compared with control group. The results showed a significant increase ( p<0.001) in the level of enzyme (Glatathione – S- transfers) and the (Alkaline phosphates)enzyme in serum breast cancer group , while we observed a slight increase ( p<0.01) in benign tumor group compared to the control group. However , there was a significant decrease in the level of the zinc element compared with the control group and a rise in the level of the copper element, which means copper /zinc ratio in patients was higher than in ontrolgroup.

Abstract

This study was aimed to estimeated at chemical composition and evaluating the effectivenes of the extract of Artemisia monosperma and Salvia officinalis L. against four species of illness bacteria that causing and food spoileg. The result were refer to found a number of effective compounds in plant extract like Glycosides , Flavonoids , Resins, Alkaloids, Phenols and Trace elements (Co, Zn, Fe, Pb, Cd and Cu). The results of Microbiological tests were showed some difference between the effect of this plants on the declining of the bacterical species growth. Inhibition zone against bacteria was (11-23.5)mm and the (MIC) were 10 - 30 mg/ml for alcoholic extracts against becterial species tested.

هدفت الدراسة الى تحديد التركيب الكيميائي وتقييم فاعلية المستخلصات النباتية للشيحArtemisia monosperma والمريمية Salvia officinalis L. تجاه أربع سلالات من البكتريا المرضية والمسببة لتلف وفساد الأغذية بطريقتي الانتشار بالحفر والتركيز المثبط الأدنى (MIC) ، واسفرت نتائج الاختبار المبدئي للمستخلصات النباتية عن وجود عدد من المركبات الفعالة في النباتات قيد الدراسة مثل الكلايكوسيدات والفلافونويدات والراتنجات، فضلا عن وجود مواد قلويدية وفينولية، وقد اوضحت النتائج عن وجود عدد من العناصر المعدنية في النباتات المدروسة لاسيما الكوبالت والزنك والحديد والرصاص والكادميوم و النحاس، فيما بينت نتائج الاختبارات الميكروبية وجود فرق بين تأثير هذه النباتات في قدرتها على تثبيط نمو السلالات البكترية المختبرة، اذ تراوح قطر منطقة التثبيط بين 11 – 23.5 ملم للمستخلصات الكحولية، في حين تراوح التركيز المثبط الأدنى (MIC) للمستخلصات الكحولية بين 10 - 30 ملغم / مل ضد السلالات البكترية المختبرة.
